Honestly I wanna see you be brave

Honestly I wanna see you be brave

Hey Ya'll! I'm Sister Morgan Rebecca Wright! This is my journey as I serve a eighteen month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints in the Alaska Anchorage Mission. This blog has my weekly emails and photos along with my contact information so that I can write and send letters and emails but also anyone can write me!

I will be in the Alaska Anchorage Mission. But Anchorage is the ONLY mission in Alaska... Which means my mission covers ALL of Alaska and the Ukon Territories of Canada! Right now I'm not sure where I'll be at in Alaska! I will know on August 4th when I fly to Alaska from the MTC in Provo Utah!

I am full of emotions! I am very excited, anxious, nervous, and scared! It's a new place and it's a new chapter of my life that I don't know the outcome! I'm mostly nervous because I'm from Georgia so I don't know what it's like to be cold and what snow really looks like! Although, I did go to college in Utah for a year but the snow and cold didn't count at all!! I also have never seen a bear or a moose before in the wild and I hear they are everywhere! So, it's pretty exciting but scary!

The things I'm looking forward to the most is seeing the Northern Lights if I am in a area where I can see them, I'm excited to see the land but most importantly I'm thrilled to share the message of Christ! There are so many people out in this world who don't know his name! I'm excited to share his name with the people I meet!

A dear friend of mine shared with me that the work never stops and that I was going to do great things in Alaska. I hope she was right.

#16monthstogo

I have been slacking, but here is Morgan's latest letter!
I MADE IT PASSED MY ONE MONTH MARK AND I KICKED BUTT!!!
So My week went like this:

Monday after Emailing we went to sports. I forgot my PDAY clothes such as my gym shorts so I played basketball in a skirt. I am the only sister who plays basketball, my companion sits on the stage and watches me. So after sorts we went to dinner to the Lee's. Sister Lee is so sweet! She is 28 and has two step kids who are 18 and 12 so yeah. It was really fun!! After We went to Sister Bagley's house because all of our other appointments fell through.

Tuesday We had a district meeting and then we went to do service at a women's shelter. That was really sad. After We went to see the Moslander, Humphrey family and the we went and ate dinner at the Anderson's. It was good but then we topped the day off and saw Jenny!! I love her!!! She is so real and open!! She's great!!! We watched The Joseph Smith Movie and her kids even watched it!! I love them!!

Wednesday We went to do Family History work. That was good. Then we went and saw Sister Armstrong, and had dinner at the Merrrills. She fed me 3 different types of fish!! It was lovely...
After we went to the temple with Damien, Pamela and Brother Meade our ward mission leader. It was such a good lesson. We invited Damien to be baptized he is praying about it! SO PRAY PLEASE!! While we were at the temple we kinda went by ourselves and just talked and prayed. I was sitting by myself just saying a little prayer to myself asking for a miracle.. well then the phone rang... A girl named Brenna said," Hey, I want to be baptized and I want to take the lessons!"
I was in shock I was like "Okay!" Wednesday was good.

Thursday... We went to less active to less active. If you don't want to be apart of the church anymore please don't be a grown man and chase me with a wooden paddle board and please don't wave to me through the window as you don't let us in. I'll pray for you but please fix yourself. hahah!! That night we had dinner at the Porters and then we went to the Meade's. There are wonderful!! Brother Meade and Sister Meade always knows what to say!! It was nice.

Friday we went to track. We ran into a JW named Jenna who said come back anytime!! It was exciting!! after we went tracking we went to Sister Bagley's to see how she was doing. We are really hoping to teach her great-granddaughter Natille. After we went to eat dinner at the Pettijohns!! They are amazing!! We had an outside fire pit. Well the fire started to pop and well I caught my skirt on fire but it's totally cool because it's only a small hole in my skirt!  The PettiJohn's are amazing!! After dinner went we to see Pamela and Damien. The lesson went well. Pray for them . We also went to the office to get mail!! Thank you mom, Emily, Marissa and Jared for the letters!! Also, Mrs. Carden thank you for the package!! I was super excited!!!

Saturday, we went to see Dessa a investigator! Her grandma is 103 and still kicking!! Anyways, her grandma doesn't like mormons or black people. She is from Texas. Well I am a cute white girl and she thought we were the HELP!! So she let us in and we talked to Dessa! It was awesome!!! We the went and saw some less active and then had dinner at Sister Olsen's house! She is super funny! After we went to see Damien and Pamela again and taught the the last finishing up lessons. It was good. Still continue to pray for them.

Sunday We had studies and then we had dinner at the Taylor's. It was good... We then went to see the Humphrey family! And then we went to teach my FIRST LESSON EVER to Brenna!! Her family doesn't want anything to do with the church but Brenna needs the church to help her with her life to get on the straight and narrow!! Anyways, her family was super open and so nice! The lesson went great! After the lesson with Brenna we went and saw Jenny! She's great!!!

Yeah so that was my week!! It was good. I really love the letters that you write!! Keep them coming! I love getting mail!!

I Love ya'll!!

#I'mFreezing

Hello Everyone!! So, I want to apologize in advance for the short email, misspelling words and not being email to everyone back!! I have a short amount of time and so much to say!! SO...

Monday was our PDay we emailed and played basketball with our zone. I played basketball with the elders and my compaion watched. She kinda looks like a deer in the headlights when she plays basketball! It's funny but we all have our talents! So after sports we went to dinner at Olive Garden, a member took us. It was very good! After dinner we went to see the Humphrey family. They are wonderful!!

Tuesday I got sick from the Olive Garden I think... I don't know anyways I was sick that morning but we went to district meeting. Then we studied and had our oil changed in the car. We then saw the Moslanders, they are an inactive family. Then Sister Lamberson who is in the mission presidency called us and asked to come over to Chili's and meet her for dinner. We had no one sign up for dinners this week so we ate a lot of grilled cheeses which was fine! It was so nice to go out though.

Wednesday We studies and then went to the Anchorage Temple. It was so long but it was very much needed! We then went and saw the Plum family. Their little boy who is 12 and 8 are getting baptized. So we are teaching them! We then went to Sister Armstong's house. She has been married 5 times and we learned a lot from her... a little to much about her marriages but yeah! Then we went to visit the Humphrey Family again! We love them!! Then I headed to Ocean View with Sister Hewitt on exchanges.

Thursday I was on exchanges. We had a training/trainer meeting!! I saw my district from the MTC!! We were all reunited and it was so much fun!! After the meeting Sister Hewitt and I went to visit Wanda. Wanda has a 12 year old grandson that lives with her. Its a sad situation but Wanda has the coffee table full of candy and nuts and snacks so we ate a lot while we visited with her. After we went to dinner and It was the best ever!!! The members we ate with are the Houghtelling family from Larwenceville Georgia!! They are in the same stake as Snellville so we started naming all kinds of families we knew from the Georgia area!! It was wonderful! I was so excited to let my southern accent explode and someone could understand me!! Like it was wonderful!! Ya'll don't even understand how amazing it was!! I really hope and pray I get called to serve in the Ocean View area!! We then went back to Jewel Lake to end exchanges.

Friday we went out to lunch with one of our investigators Dessa! She is so funny! She takes care of her Grandma who is 103!!! She's still kicking! Anyways, Dessa is amazing!! After lunch we went to see Sister Bagley. My companion and her talked about dead people and I just sat there took some photos, and studied Preach my Gospel. Then we went to see the Humphrey's and then had dinner at Sister Whittington. She used to be a pilot y'all!! Like she used to fly air planes!! So cool. Anyways, after that we went to see Brother and Sister Meade who is the mission ward person. They are seriously so awesome!! I love them!! They aren't strange or anything!! It's wonderful!!

Saturday we went to a baptism in the area. We had a less active come Jenny Vue. I have to tell you about Jenny, she is 25 a single mother of 2 with no help! She is so dedicated to being a mom and she is trying to get her act together to get back to church!! I have so much respect for her! She is really an amazing person! She came to the baptism and then we walked around the temple. She really opened up to me about how and why she stopped coming to church. I shared with her why I stopped coming and what brought me back. After we went to have a lesson with Pamela and Damien. Pamela is a member who is inactive but is coming back. Damien her boyfriend is taking the lessons he is so close to being baptized! They are great. Pamela is such a great help to me!! Her spirit is just wonderful!!

Sunday.. Holy Crap! It was great!! Dessa, Jenny, Damien and Pamela all came to church!! It was great!! Sundays are super hard for me being I feel really alone. But Jenny and Pamela has been so amazing. Jenny just talked to me and was there sitting by me which was great. We had a lesson with Damien and Pamela that night and Pamela said that she really appreciated me because I cared. And i do care. It's truly wonderful to say that someone cares since i am out here. It's nice. So it was a hard week but it was good.

I have cried and I have felt really alone but Heavenly Father is always there for me and I am grateful for that.

everyone should look up Hope In God's Light it's a mormon message but every time you watch it you'll learn something. I cry but I learn something every time!!

Please write me letters!! It would be nice to get them

Love Y'all

#Alaska Living

Hey Ya'll!!
I have to tell you all about the plan rides to Alaska! I sat by Elder Winslow and Elder Timmos. Elder Winslow made me laugh the whole entire time for the 3 house flight to Washington! It was so funny! He is hilarious!! My district all sat together on the plane the first ride but we didm;t sit near each other the second flight. It was so exciting to be in Washington where Emily was!! I was able to call my mom from the Seattle airport! I was the last one to call and I was crying like a baby! It was riduclous but Elder Winslow came over and said, "It's okay Georgia". I seriously have the best friends/district ever!! They are so truly amazing!! My EB was still really bad but Elder Hinkcley and so concering he asked if i c=was okay every time i took a step!

We got to Alaska. Had a breaif testimony meeting and it was so spiritual!! I am so grateful! Maybe I will go a testimony meeting without crying. But i don't think i will!!! It was the last night our family was together!! We were so sad we were separating! But we know we are going to be family after our mission! They are the best!! I am so glad we picked each other to serve with!!

At transfer meeting I was so EXCITED to see Elder Sorenson!!! HE IS THE BEST!!! He is going to Canada, White Horse!!! That is so exciting!!

So I am in Alaska. I am in the Jewel Lakes area. It's super ghetto. There was a robbery the other night down the road from us. It's where the projects are and stuff like that. People are super poor and they latterly have nothing. It's so sad. It's the saddest thing I have ever seen. It makes me feel so grateful for the house and family I have. My compaion is Sister Applegate. She talks to dead people. She can see like dead people. It's the creepiest thing ever. She talks to this other lady in the ward all about it because I guess that both talk to dead people. It makes me very scared.

I haven't seen a moose, bear, or anything cool like that. There is 175 inactive families and only 59 active families so we have a lot of work to do! The work is mostly inactive work. We have to get them going back to church. It's hard. I don't think I was ever that hard headed but i had a difficult time coming back so I am just going to do everything I can to get these families to church!

Other than that everything is good... it's okay.
My mission president and his wife are amazing!! My district leaders are wonderful!

Oh I ate a fish yesterday called Samoan. I ate it and then my mouth started to break out with little bumps and then i got sick. So i think I am allergic to it or something.

Anyways, Please write me! Because I love getting letters!!

MTC Living

#Iamalive!

Hey Ya'll!! So I am alive! Today is my pday and I am so excited! I think I should started by saying that I miss you all! And that my week went like this!!

Wednesday after my mom dropped me off I didn't cry at all!! I wanted to make a good first impression! Just like Rachel Berry said,"First impressions are important so are metaphors." I went to meet my companion Sister Sierra Lyn Johnstun! She is wonderful!! I have never laughed so hard in my laugh! We get along great!!

Wednesday to Sunday was a blur I am not going to lye it was so busy and over whelming. I wanted to just leave. I haven't even unpacked yet. I am ready for Alaska.

The MTC.. is really hard. I am not going to make it sound like its a wonderful place. It's like spiritual jail. The food... I got sick the first day I ate it and have been throwing up it's really gross. It's like a big babysitting company.  It sucks. HAHA!! The showers.... well lets just say I screamed the first night because there was like a giant spider in my shower!! I flipped out!! I am also sleeping on the top bunk and I fell off my bed which I woke everyone up and I cried. But that's okay! I have been rooming with Sister Fetui and Sister Hall they are both 20. They are so sweet! Sister Fetui and I are pretty close! She was inactive her whole life and is now on a mission! So we are super close and she is so easy to talk to!

Our district is amazing! Sister Johnstun and I are the only sisters headed to Alaska with 6 other Elders! We are so blessed to have them!! They take such good care of us! they make sure we are okay, they ask if we need a blessing, they pray with us when we need it and the sit with us at every single meal!! They are always making us laugh and feeling so amazing!! They complement us and they are just wonderful men!! We are so blessed!!
We have Elder Presley who looks like Zac Efron. We have Elder Hinkley from Ohio who is tall and so kind! He always opens the door for us! We have Elder Garver who is so spiritual! We have Elder Minton who is so quite but when you talks he is so funny! And then we have Elder Timous who is out in lift field when everyone is at home base! Then we have Elder Winslow! He is so awesome! We have all become best friends but Elder Winslow is like the best friend! We can talk to everyone in our district about anything and everything! We are way to close but we all get along and we balance each other out which is wonderful! We are the closest district ever!! We all play basketball together! Sister Johnstun and I look like a deer in the headlights when we play but "Our Elders" include us in so much!!

So yesterday/ Monday was wonderful It was great!!! Sister Johnstun and I have been in a mood where we don't cry but we laugh. We laughed all day yesterday! Our Elders had to pray for us and everything! It was so ridiculous! Adjusting to missionary life is hard and everyone adjusts to it in a different way. I don't want to cry but I laugh. I laugh because I am frustrated and stressed and I am over whelmed. So yesterday Sister Johnston and I role played and taught in investigator/ our teacher named Rob. The lesson was going wonderful! I was teaching about Joseph Smith and I look over and Sister Johnstun is laughing so hard she is crying so I start to laugh and cry! It was so bad!! Our teacher was just looking at us so we ended on that note with a prayer. It was awful! HAHA! That night we had a real investigator who is Sarah! She is so much fun! We love her! She is very sassy and doesn't hold anything back! We walked in the room and Sarah just askd us a whole bunch of questions not about the church about about us and our life. We got to know each other which was great! We didn't even get a chance to pray. But we are teaching Sarah again tomorrow which is great and also Rob!

Today is my Pday so I am emailing, doing laundry and getting a hair cut. I am only getting a trim to cut my dead ends off! So as Sister Johnstun and I were doing laundry. Sister Johnston lost her planner. Turns out she washed it in the washer with all her clothes. So her clothes are ruined because of the paper and ink all over them.  We are going to the temple today as a district because we do everything together! And then tonight we are just going to have a meeting with our branch presidency.

It will be a great day!

I could really use the prayers to get through this week. I leave for Alaska on Monday!! I am so excited! But the MTC is super hard. It's over whelming so please pray for me but my district as well!

Thank you so much MOM for the dear elder letters! Thank you so much Marissa for your letter I cried and one letter is coming to you!! Also, thank you Hammond family for the dear elder as well! But thank you EMILY/ SISTER WRIGHT for the package of food and diet coke you sent!!

I love you all!!

Love
Sister Morgan Rebecca Wright
